Crime Prevention on Patrol

Instructor: Brian Kanicki

This unique fast paced course has quickly become a favorite among police officers and administrators nationwide. While designed for front-line law enforcement officers to do more than merely respond to crime in their communities, this one-day class is a must for anyone in law enforcement who strides to provide a more preventative, customer service based approach to policing. This course will examine the basics of preventing crime, why crime occurs where it does, and how to successfully engage citizens to partner in community crime prevention efforts. While theories of crime prevention will be discussed, this course offers “real world” crime prevention examples along with providing tools and resources for officers to make an immediate impact within their own communities. Security surveys, risk assessments and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) theories will also be examined.
